Aggies with ground to make up at Territory Classic

DUNCAN, Okla. – The Cameron men’s golf team struggled in the first round of the Territory Classic and are currently in seventh place after 18 holes of play.
 
The Aggies carded a team score of 305 on Monday and are 20 strokes back of the tournament leader St. Mary’s, who was the only team to have multiple sub-par rounds.
 
Freshman Kevin Farmer led CU on day one, shooting a 75, and is tied for 19th place, while Devin Whipple and Niels Sorensen are just a stroke behind with a pair of 76s. Dario Gabriel and Donovan Osborne rounded out the CU lineup, each with a score of 78 on Monday.
 
Whipple leads the team with three birdies through 18 holes, while Sorensen shot two under on the par five holes, and Farmer and Gabriel each shot one under.
 
Three CU players are competing as medalists at this year’s Territory Classic. Mason LeGrange had the low round of the three with a 79, while Caden McAnally shot an 82 and Suvansh Arora recorded an 83.
 
STMU leads the rest of the field by at least four, as Oklahoma Christian and Midwestern State are currently tied for second, St. Edward’s is in fourth, and Newman and Rogers State are tied for fifth. UT Permian Basin is just a stroke behind CU in eighth, while Dallas Baptist is at the back with a 313.
 
Individually, the Rattlers’ Emilio Gonzalez and Jake Stevenson, OC’s Trevor Norby, and MSU’s Clayton Meyers are tied for first, each with a 69 in the first round.
 
The second and final round of the Territory Classic will be on Tuesday, with tee times starting at 8:30.
