Kaman and Aggies place seventh in El Paso

EL PASO, Texas – Freshman Josiah Crews recorded his first collegiate sub-70 score, while Tyler Kaman placed seventh at the LSC/RMAC Shootout on Tuesday; Cameron finished in seventh as a team.

Cameron entered the final round in fifth place and in striking distance of the top teams. CU shot a solid 295 during the final 18 holes but dropped two spots to finish in seventh with an 876 at their first event of the fall season.

Kaman entered Tuesday’s round tied for second place after a 67 in the first round and a 72 in the second. He followed that up with a one-over 73 to give him a 212 for the event, which earned him a seventh place finish. Kaman notched 11 birdies during the 54-hole event and led the field with a one-under score on the par-3 holes.

A Marlow HS product, Crews notched five birdies during his 69 final round, giving the first year player a 223 for the 54-hole event. His eight birdies for the tournament tied for second place on the Aggie squad.

Rounding out the CU lineup on Tuesday was Joey Kirk with a 221, Devin Whipple with a 222, and Logan Durst with a 236 for the tournament. Led by Whipple (38), Cameron had the most made pars for the tournament with 171 to go along with their 39 combined birdies.

The Aggies’ lone individual, Donovan Osborne, carded a 79 in the final round to finish the LSC/RMAC Shootout with a score of 231.

Western New Mexico, who was the host of the tournament, nabbed the team title with an 855 three-round score, which was just seven strokes ahead of the second place finisher Colorado Mesa. Midwestern State (869), Colorado-Colorado Springs (872), and UT Tyler (874) and UT Permian Basin (874) rounded out the top-5; CU was just two strokes back of UTT and UTPB.

MSU’s Garrett Leek continued his dominance at the top of the player leaderboard, shooting a 67 in the final round, his third sub-70 score, to finish with a 203 for the tournament. Fort Lewis College’s Darren Edwards, WNMU’s Adam Niles, and UTPB’s Parker Beaty all shot 210 to finish tied for second.

Next up for the Cameron men will be the MSU Mustang Invite on Oct. 12-13 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
