Dumas, Tate, and Momoh combine for 47 against ENMU

PORTALES, N.M. – Despite scoring 22 points in the first 10 minutes of the game, the Aggie men’s poor end to the first half was the difference in their 86-72 loss at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday.
Cameron shot just under 40 percent from the field in the game, hitting on 42.3 percent of their shots from the perimeter and 17-24 from the free throw line. Their opposition shot nearly 50 percent from the floor, making 10 of their 24 three-point attempts and 24 of their 28 free throw attempts.
The trio of Zach Dumas, Tyus Momoh, and Johann Tatecombined for 47 points, with Dumas leading the way with 17, making 4-6 from three, while Tate had 16 and Momoh chipped in 14.
Both teams got off to fast starts in the first half, and after 10 minutes of action, the score was tied 22-22 after a made jumper by CU’s Chris Royal. Cameron then went on an almost five minutes scoring drought ended by a Dumas three that allowed ENMU to build up a six point lead. Another scoring drought from the Aggies led to the Greyhounds scoring 10 straight to end the half leading 41-25.
Cameron shot just 33.3 percent in the first 20 minutes, going 5-12 from three and not shooting a free throw, while on the opposite side of the court, Easter New Mexico shot over 55 percent from the field, going 6-10 from three and 5-7 from the charity stripe in the half. Momoh led all scorers with 10 points at the break, with Dumas chipping in eight for CU. Nick Brown led the Greyhounds with eight points through the first 20 minutes of play.
The two teams combined for 45 free throws in the second half, but the closest Cameron would get would be 11 when Dumas made a three at the 17:28 mark. Tate scored 14 of his 16 points in the second frame, going 3-5 from the field, 1-2 from three, and 7-8 from the foul line. As a team, CU shot 36.2 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from the perimeter, and hit 17 of their 24 free throws during the last 20 minutes of play. The Greyhounds made 19 of 21 from the charity stripe to secure the 14-point win.
Brown led ENMU with 19 points in the contest, while Maurice Coleman chipped in 17 while going 10-11 from the free throw line.
Cameron now sits at 2-6 overall and 0-2 in Lone Star Conference play, while Eastern moves to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
The Aggies will get a 14-day break after playing six games in the span of two weeks. Their next game will be on Dec. 15 when they host Lubbock Christian, who they lost to earlier this season on Nov. 17.
