Aggies fall in three to Rambelles

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Cameron University volleyball team fell in straight sets to Angelo State on Friday night, falling 25-14, 25-16, and 25-15.

The Aggies hit just .035 on the attack, with 25 kills, while ASU hit .226 with 39. At the net, the match was even with both teams recording five total blocks, but the Rambelles had a huge advantage at the service line, notching eight aces to CU’s none.

Ashleigh McFatridge led the Black and Gold with eight kills and a .400 attack percentage, while Paige Dixon added seven. Katherine Manning had a team-high 14 assists, and on defense Brittnee Altic led the team with 18 digs and Brandy Carr had a match-best four blocks.

Angelo State led from the start, using a .220 hitting percentage and multiple small runs to build up a 25-14 lead.

Cameron showed signs of power early in the second, using a 4-0 run to take a 5-3 lead, but ASU responded by using a pair of four point rallies to win the set 25-16.

The Rambelles best offensive set came in the third, when they hit .334. The home team used a 5-0 stretch midway through the set to build up their lead and go on to win 25-15.

Meghan Parker led ASU with 29 assists, while Audrey Fragniere and Bailey Drum each had nine kills.

With the loss, Cameron falls to 3-24 on the season and 1-16 in Lone Star Conference play, and Angelo State moves to 20-7 overall and 13-4 in league play with the win.

The Aggies have another tough match ahead of them on Saturday, as they visit No. 11 Tarleton State, with first serve set to begin at 1 p.m.
