Wynona & the Big Noise

Respected by the millions of fans who are drawn to her music and undeniable talent, Wynonna’s rich and commanding voice has sold over 30-million albums worldwide spanning her remarkable 34-year career. As one-half of the legendary mother/daughter duo “The Judds,” Wynonna was once dubbed by Rolling Stone as “the greatest female country singer since Patsy Cline.” This iconic performer has received over 60 industry awards, with countless charting singles, including 20 No.1 hits such as “Mama He’s Crazy,” “Why Not me,” and “Grandpa, (Tell Me ‘Bout The Good Ole Days).” Wynonna and her band The Big Noise, led by her husband/drummer/producer, Cactus Moser, released their debut full-length album in February 2016 via Curb Records to critical acclaim. Named after a haunting Bob Dylan song, Farewell Angelina is an all-female country group with four powerhouse vocalists, dynamic songwriters and awesome multi-instrumentalists. Their stellar blend of heart-stopping harmonies over blazing double violins and guitars has earned soaring praise across the board. Rough stock calls them a “Superstar Act… with Killer Songs.” Rolling Stone says, “Wickedly smart songwriting delivered with a healthy dash of sass… deft playing… into one sonic knockout punch.”

It’s been five decades since drummer/producer Bobby Colomby and friends assembled the first group to successfully blend rock and jazz into a genre crossing sound and style. So successfully in fact, that the band’s second album, Blood, Sweat & Tears, topped the Billboard charts for many weeks and beat out the Beatles’ Abbey Road for the prestigious Album of the Year Grammy award. That album produced three major hit singles: “You Made me so Very Happy,” “Spinning Wheel,” and “And When I Die.” BS&T has won 3 Grammy’s and nominated over 10 times. But now Colomby is looking for much more as he develops Blood Sweat & Tears into a contemporary voice, one that reaches beyond a single, nostalgic audience. “I no longer want to target just one generation. That would be a mistake. With this updated version, I want this band to gain recognition with a wider audience. I want people of all ages to experience what this music has to offer.

The City of Lawton, in collaboration with the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority, will host its 31st Annual Trash Off event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 in the McMahon Auditorium parking lot, 801 NW Ferris. This event is a free opportunity for Lawtonians to responsibly dispose of many materials that cannot be placed in residential carts. Citizens will be directed to proper disposal bins by signage and volunteers in the parking lot on the morning of the event.

Citizens may drop off materials at no charge, but must present a valid ID with a Lawton address or a City of Lawton utility bill. Those with military ID will also be permitted to drop off materials at no cost.

Non-residents wishing to drop off items may do so by making a $25 donation by cash or card to the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority on-site.

Items accepted during this event include used oil, auto batteries, antifreeze, fluorescent bulbs and appliances. Special vendors will also accept pharmaceuticals, pesticides and pool chemicals. A full list of acceptable and unacceptable items can be found HERE . Inquiries about any Trash Off materials to be accepted may be directed to the City of Lawton Neighborhood Services Division at (580) 581-3467.

In addition to on-site collections in the auditorium parking lot, various volunteers and civic groups will coordinate to clean trash and debris throughout areas of town. Those interested in participating in this beautification project, can contact City of Lawton Neighborhood Services
Division at (580) 581-3467 or bgreenhill@lawtonok.gov <mailto:bgreenhill@lawtonok.gov> for supplies, T-shirts and mapped locations.
