CU women in ninth at SEU Invite

AUSTIN, Texas – The Cameron women’s golf team is in ninth place after their first round of play at the St. Edward’s Crosswind Gloves Invite, their first tournament of the spring.

The Aggies shot a 309 during the first 18-holes at the Onion Creek Club and are currently in the middle of the pack, 19 strokes back of the leader in the clubhouse West Texas A&M, who carded a 290 during Monday’s round.

Senior Allison Duffin and freshman Ashley Davis are tied for 19th individually with a pair of 76 first round scores. They lead the CU squad, followed by Iona Roska, who shot a 77 and is in 28th place individually. Additionally, Ellie Fellers carded a first round 80 and Kyndall Morgan had an 82 for CU’s throw-away score.

Roska tied for the field lead with a one-under score on the par-3 holes, while hitting a pair of birdies in the first round. Duffin led CU with 13 pars during her round on Monday while Davis recorded a team-high three birdies during the opening round.

WT leads the rest of the field by five strokes, as Arkansas Tech is in second place with a score of 295, while Tarleton, Central Oklahoma, and the host squad St. Edward’s are all tied for third with scores of 300 on Monday.

The Aggies are just two strokes behind the three sixth place teams, including Angelo State, UT Tyler, and St. Mary’s. Southwestern Oklahoma is right behind CU, rounding out the top-10 with a first round 310.

West Texas student-athlete Ueakarn Songprasert had the lone sub-70 score of the day, shooting a two-under 68 as she leads the field. SEU’s Elena Castanon is in second with a 70 and ATU’s Josie Roberson shot a 71 and is in third place.

Cameron will look to move up a few spots during the final 18 holes of play on Tuesday, as the round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start in Austin.
