Cameron in fifth through two rounds at Houston Classic

HUMBLE, Texas – After 36-holes of play at the Golf Course of Houston, the Cameron men’s golf team is in fifth place at the Houston Classic, their first event of the spring.

Cameron opened the three-round event with a with a 298 and were tied for third after 18 holes on the course. They followed that up with a 307 in the second round, which dropped them to fifth place after the first day of action in Humble. Their 605 has them currently 27 strokes back of the event leader Central Oklahoma.

Junior Tyler Kaman had the best day of the five Aggies competing, shooting a 72 in the first round and a 74 in the second. His 146 36-hole score has him tied for eighth on the player leaderboard.

Additionally, Devin Whipple and Joey Kirk are tied for 25th after two rounds of play with scores of 153. Whipple carded a 77 in the first round and a 76 in the second, while Kirk followed up his first round 75 with a 78 during the second 18-holes of play. Preston Holmes is two strokes behind his teammates with a 155 (76+79) and Logan Durst shot a 159 (75+84).

The Bronchos currently own a six stroke lead over Southern Arkansas and their two-round total of 584. Southwestern Christian is in third with a 591, while Harding is sitting just a stroke ahead of the Aggies in fourth.

Harding’s Jake Croshaw, who is competing as an individual, leads the field with a 36-hole score of 139. Croshaw shot a 70 during round one and then had the only sub-70 score of the day during round two, carding a 69.

Cameron will look to move back up the team leaderboard on Tuesday, as the wrap up the Houston Classic with the third and final round of the event.
