Aggie women finish second at LSC Preview

CANYON, Texas – Cameron’s women’s cross country teams continued their strong program start with their third second place finish of 2018, as they were the runner up at the Lone Star Conference Preview Meet on Saturday.

Final Results

CU was just five points behind the event winner Eastern New Mexico, finishing with a total time of 2:00:52.57 and an average time of 24:10.52; the Greyhounds had an average time of 23:42.16.

Edna Cheptum was once again the Aggies’ top finisher, placing second with a time of 23:23.40. Valeria Villatoro continued her strong freshman campaign, placing fifth with a 23:45.47 time, while Keyanna Patterson and Chloe Phillips both cracked the top-10 with times of just over 24 minutes.

Cameron also had three others finish inside of the top-20 with Taylor Esquivel placing 13th, and Alma Duran and Karla Taylor finishing back-to-back in 19th and 20th.

ENMU paced the field by having three runners inside of the top-6, including race winner Mercy Rotich who finished with a 21:48.65 time.

Behind Eastern and CU, West Texas A&M placed third, a full 50 points behind the Aggies, while Lubbock Christian came in fourth and UT Permian Basin placed fifth.

The Aggies will be back in Canyon in a couple of weeks as they compete in the LSC Championship race on Nov. 3.
