CU Aggies take care of OPSU Aggies
GOODWELL, Oklahoma (September 30, 2008) – Make it three wins in a row for the Cameron Aggie volleyball team (9-7, 1-2 LSC) who tonight swept the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies (2-15) on the road in Goodwell, Oklahoma. CU won the match 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-19) and took care of business in just over an hour. Cameron’s current three-match win streak is the team’s longest of the season.
“One thing I was really pleased about tonight was our blocking,” Head Coach Brianne Smedley said. “We made a conscious effort to work on blocks this week and I saw the results tonight. We touched a lot of good balls and we got five very solid blocks.”
CU was in control of the match throughout, and set the tone early with a sound defeat of OPSU in the first set. Cameron recorded a team hitting percentage of .308 in the match while limiting Panhandle State to a -.036 hitting percentage. Additionally, every Aggie volleyballer saw action in tonight’s match.
Junior right-side hitter Lindsay Paziuk once again led the team offensively with a team-high 12 kills on 21 attacks (3 errors) for a.429 hitting percentage. She also recorded 2 assists, a service ace, and a block assist.
Freshman outside hitter Malyssa Acton led the team with 13 defensive digs. She also contributed 7 kills on 17 attacks (2 errors) for a solid .294 hitting percentage, as well as an assist and a team-high 4 service aces.
Cameron’s assist leader tonight was junior Laura Ellerbrock who totaled a game-high 20 assists. She also added 1 kill on 2 attacks (no errors) for an attack percentage of .500, as well as a service ace and 10 defensive digs.
“We still have to work on our errors,” Coach Smedley said. “We made a lot of unforced errors and it’s unacceptable to have that many missed serves. Our blocking was much improved and I thought we were more in control with our digs. Our overall body control was much better.”
Cameron stays home for a week-long break before hitting the road next Thursday (October 9) to take on the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm at 7:00pm in Durant, Oklahoma. CU’s next home match is not until Thursday, October 16, when the team hosts the Tarleton State TexAnns at 7:00pm in Aggie Gym.
The CU Aggies and OPSU Aggies conclude this season’s home-and-home series at the Aggie Gym on Tuesday, October 28, at 7:00pm in Aggie Gym.
