In any wedding, the theme is important. Many weddings have color-based themes, but those who choose complex themes have an often daunting task before them. With theme weddings, details matter, and when successfully pulled off, they can be unforgettable.
Generally, the theme either reflects the location of the ceremony, the ethnicity of one or more of the couple, or is based solely on a whim- whatever the couple wants. Here are few creative theme ideas to get you started-
Beach Weddings-
One of the most popular wedding themes, a beach wedding is a casually elegant affair that captures the beauty and tranquility of the seascape. Select natural colors that complement the sea and sand, such as chocolate brown, buttercup yellow, taupe, beige, rust, dark red, silver, and aquamarine. Crystal and pearl chokers are popular for brides or bridesmaids, and go for a less formal gown- a plain silk or ivory lace, that sort of thing. Make your bouquets simple, like willow with vanilla roses or wildflowers.
Evening Weddings-
For a soft, mysterious aura, augment the natural beauty of dusk and nightfall. Antiqued gold, creamy ivory, and dusted rose red are lovely colors for an evening wedding, and accents such as embroidery with tiny pearls and crystals will help create a stunning elegance. If the wedding will be after dark, then choose colors that will look good against a backdrop of stars, like silver and ice blue.
Asian Weddings-
Asian themed weddings are elegant and subtly exotic at the same time. For Chinese or Vietnamese weddings, choose reds, gold and, bright blues. For a Japanese wedding, use stone grey, sage green, and bark brown with orchid colors, like hot purple and fuchsia. Flowers might be orchids, lilies, or cherry blossoms. For Indian or Thai weddings, use bright, vibrant colors like red, orange, and pink; and incorporate local flora in the bouquets.
Renaissance Weddings-
Have a fairy-tale romance? Throw a Renaissance themed wedding, using dark colors and thick fabrics, like brocade and velvet. Deep, dark colors like forest green, burgundy, red, and blue work well with this theme. This is also the perfect time to pull out that tiara and play princess for a day.
Hawaiian or Tropical-
Much like a Beach Wedding, but with a more specific focus and an island feel. Floral colors like blues, reds, and yellows bring the tropics to mind, and decorations should be natural and simple. Candles will help create atmosphere, and remember- you can’t use too many flowers!
