Movie Series Puts Focus on Oklahoma

For film buffs, one of the most exciting of the million-and-one Centennial activities going on celebrating state’s 100th birthday is the Oklahoma Centennial Film Series.

Showtime is 2 p.m. every Sunday through next month at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. The museum is located about an hour and 15 minutes north of Lawton, in downtown OKC. The address is 415 Couch Drive.

Reid signs with Schwelmer Baskets

LAWTON, Oklahoma (July 12) – Former Aggie basketball standout Matt Reid has signed a professional contract with the Schwelmer Baskets basketball team in Germany. Reid completed his collegiate eligibility at Cameron last season and finished 2006-2007 as the Aggies leading scorer and stealer. Reid, whose father Michael played for the Portland Trailblazers, sees the move to Germany as another step towards his ultimate goal: playing in the National Basketball Association.

“To play professionally has been a dream of mine since freshman year of high school,” Reid said. “I have worked so hard, but this is a baby step for me. I could have the chance to play in the NBA after a year and will have the chance to explore more of Europe.”

Hackerott hires Belsky as Assistant

LAWTON, Oklahoma (June 29) - The Cameron women's basketball coaching staff is now complete and ready for the 2007-2008 season. Head Coach Kevin Hackerott announced today the hiring of new assistant Andrew Belsky, filling the open spot left by the departure of Nikki Maloney earlier this summer. Hackerott entertained a number of fine applicants and could not be more ecstatic about the addition of Belsky.

Aggie tennis signs LHS product Sasser

LAWTON, Oklahoma (June 1) – The Cameron Aggie men’s tennis team stayed in town to sign their first recruit of the offseason. Head Coach James Helvey today announced the signing of Jeff Sasser, a standout tennis player from Lawton High School. Sasser will join the Aggie men’s tennis team this fall.

CU Athletics officially drops the “Lady” Ags

LAWTON, Oklahoma (June 25) – The Cameron Athletic Department announced this afternoon the official dropping of the name “Lady” from their five women’s athletic programs. Until now, the Aggie women’s tennis, golf, basketball, softball, and volleyball teams had been known as the “Lady Aggies,” but not anymore.

Lawton Celebrates the 4th of July

Last week the H.E. Bailey Turnpike was closed due to water on the road, Wolf Creek keeps splashing over its banks, the neighborhood of Garden Village had to be evacuated and the numbers boys say we're on track for a record-breaking month of rainfall in Lawton. But, as often as we've been in a drought at this time of year, it's hard to complain.
