Aggies win fourth, fifth straight

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 24) – On a beautiful day at Cameron Field, the Aggie softball team (8-8, 2-0 LSC North) won their fourth and fifth consecutive games with a double-header sweep of the East Central Tigers (7-4, 0-2 LSC North). CU came from behind to win game one 6-5, and stayed in control to win the nightcap 5-2. Today’s double-dip was the Lone Star Conference North Division opener for both teams.

Aggies roll on, crush Bison

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma (February 23) – Both of Cameron’s nationally-ranked tennis teams continued their winning ways today in Shawnee, Oklahoma, against the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University. The #6 Aggie men dropped their opponents 7-2, while the #30 Cameron women won 6-3. Both teams looked very solid out on the court and nearly swept every match.

Aggies sluggers ranked #11

TUCSON, Arizona (February 23) – After splitting a four-game series last weekend with the #14 team in the nation, the Cameron Aggie baseball team (11-4, 5-3 LSC) catapulted to #11 in the national rankings released today by the Collegiate Baseball organization. The Aggies were ranked a hair out of the top ten with 312 total points. They are the second-highest ranked Lone Star Conference team behind #8 Abilene Christian.

CU officially inducts Class of 2009

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 23) – In front of over 200 current and former Cameron Aggie student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and boosters, CU Athletic Director Jim Jackson officially inducted the six members of the Cameron Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2009 last Friday evening. The group was announced last November and was officially inducted at the induction ceremony and banquet last week. This is the second class in the Hall.

Aggies sweep Warriors to start 2-0

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 3) – While much of the country is still in the deep cold of winter, it’s time for baseball in Lawton, Oklahoma. Today at McCord Field, the Cameron Aggie baseball team (2-0, 0-0 LSC) kicked off their 2009 season with a two-game sweep of the Bacone College Warriors (0-2, 0-0 RRAC). Cameron came from behind to win the first game 7-6, and stayed in control to win the nightcap 9-1. The games were originally scheduled for last Sunday but were moved due to ice on the field.

Aggies beat Dallas for win #9

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 2) – In the first of two consecutive late-season non-conference home games, the Cameron Aggie men’s basketball team (9-11, 3-3 LSC North) hosted the Dallas Christian College Crusaders (5-14, 1-0 ACCA) tonight in the Aggie Gym. CU won the game 74-68, but DCC kept it very close throughout. The win gives Cameron 9 on the season with 7 games remaining, 4 of which are at home.

The final event of the 2009-10 Live From the Center season, the Golden Dragon Acrobats bring a brilliant conclusion to the series sponsored by Chisholm Trail Arts Council.

Aggies crowned champs of HSU Invite

HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas (February 22) – After a rough start to the 2009 season, it is now safe to say that the Cameron Aggie softball team (6-8, 0-0 LSC North) is back on the winning track. A two-game sweep today allowed CU to finish this weekend’s Henderson State Invitational tournament 4-1, and thanks to a tournament-high +21 run differential, the Aggies were named champions of the eight-team event.

CU falls to #9 UCO on Homecoming

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 22) – In Cameron University’s annual Homecoming game, the Aggie men’s basketball team (12-13, 5-5) fell to the nationally-ranked #9 Central Oklahoma Bronchos (22-3, 9-1 LSC North) by the score 85-62. CU kept their opponents in check for much of the game, but in the end UCO was simply too much. The loss gives the Bronchos the season sweep of the Aggies and drops CU back to .500 in North Division play.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 21) – The Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team (6-19, 1-11 LSC North) came up just short today in their annual Homecoming game. Against the nationally-ranked #17 Central Oklahoma Bronchos (21-4, 11-1 LSC North), the Aggies lost by the score 62-47. Today’s rivalry game was very competitive but in the end UCO was just too much for a strong CU squad.

ASU won the first game this afternoon 5-3, but CU rebounded to win the nightcap 15-7. The teams split both double-headers in the series to tie at 2-2.

Eight teams are competing for the event’s championship and while five teams have 2-1 records, CU holds the overall advantage with a +12 margin of victory. The Aggies won two games on Friday, one today, and have two to play tomorrow.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 20) – Fans at McCord Field were treated to an offensive onslaught in today’s baseball double-header between the Cameron Aggies (10-3, 4-2 LSC) and the nationally-ranked #14 Angelo State Rams (8-5, 4-2 LSC). CU battled from behind to win today’s opener 9-7, but ASU exacted revenge in the nightcap by the score 21-11. An amazing total of 15 home runs were hit today, thanks in large part to a northeasterly wind.

Tonight the Aggies knocked off the Northeastern State RiverHawks (10-15, 5-5 LSC North) in a game with huge playoff implications.

TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma (February 18) – An amazing 7 three-pointers by sophomore guard Haley Dunn was the highlight of the game tonight in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Unfortunately, it was not quite enough to lead the Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team (6-18, 1-10 LSC North) to victory against the Northeastern State RiverHawks (14-10, 6-5 LSC North). NSU defeated CU 93-49, but Dunn led all scorers in the game.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (February 18) – It was business as usual for Cameron’s two nationally-ranked tennis teams today in Oklahoma City where the Aggies swept the Cowley College Tigers. The #30 Cameron women’s team defeated Cowley 6-3, while the #6 Aggie men followed suit with a 9-0 victory. Cowley College is nationally-ranked at #10 in the most recent NJCAA poll for community and junior colleges.

Cameron students call on community businesses to “Paint The Town Black and Gold”

Cameron University students Megan Mefford, Julianne Moini and Daniel Brown will be calling on businesses throughout the Lawton/Fort Sill community over the next few weeks, urging them to Paint The Town Black and Gold. The student-led effort is intended to raise community awareness by partnering with local businesses, who can demonstrate their support of Cameron in a variety of ways: by flying a CU flag, offering discounts for CU students, distributing athletic schedules and event information, selling CU merchandise, and participating in Spirit Fridays by encouraging their staff members to wear Aggie apparel or black and gold.

DALLAS, Texas (February 11) – The 2009 spring season could not have started any tougher for the Cameron Aggie men’s tennis team (2-1) who today had to do battle with the Mustangs of Southern Methodist University. SMU defeated CU 7-2 this afternoon but every match was extremely close. Both teams are ranked nationally with CU at #6 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Division II rankings, and SMU at #46 in the ITA’s Division I rankings.

Tonight’s victory gives the Aggies 4 North Division wins, the highest total in school history which has been achieved just 2 other times. COMMERCE, Texas (February 14) – In what would have been a huge upset, the Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team (6-17, 1-9 LSC North) nearly knocked off a very tough Texas A&M-Commerce Lion (16-7, 8-2 LSC North) squad today in Texas. The final score was 66-54 in favor of TAMU-C, giving CU their ninth loss of the year in Lone Star Conference North Division play. The game was a back-and-forth battle that was decided in the final few minutes of the second half.

COMMERCE, Texas (February 14) – The Cameron Aggie men’s basketball team (11-12, 4-4 LSC North) got a taste of their own medicine today as they led for nearly the entire game against the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions (14-9, 5-3 LSC North) but lost, 64-60. CU led for the entire first half and more than 31 minutes in the game, but a late surge by TAMU-C dropped the Aggies to .500 in Lone Star Conference North Division play.

OCU won the first game in a fifth-inning run-rule, 11-3, and stayed in control to drop CU in the nightcap, 7-1. OCU is ranked nationally in the NAIA coaches’ top 25 poll, and finish last year at #3.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 17) – On a breezy afternoon at Cameron’s McCord Field, the Aggie baseball team (9-2, 3-1 LSC) defeated the Missouri Southern State Lions (3-4, 0-0 MIAA) in a run-ruled game. CU dropped MSSU 18-8, but it took a few innings for Cameron to get going. The Aggies unloaded for 12 runs in the final three innings to call the game early in the bottom of the eighth inning. CU has now had three winning streaks this season.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 8) – There were a lot of Aggie footprints across home plate today at McCord Field as the Cameron baseball team (4-1, 0-0 LSC) swept the Pittsburg State Gorillas (1-3, 0-0 MIAA) back to Kansas. CU won today’s opener in resounding fashion by the score 15-2, and kept their foot on the gas to win the nightcap 5-2. CU and PSU have met for the first four-game series of the year in each of at least the last 11 years.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 7) – Make it 10 wins on the season for the Cameron Aggie men’s basketball team (10-11, 3-3 LSC North) who today dropped the Abilene Christian Wildcats (8-12, 2-4 LSC South) by the score 71-68. TWU won the second half of this year’s home-and-home series with CU, a 65-49 victory today in the Aggie Gym. The game was very competitive and looked like it would be the win CU needed to end their current eleven-game losing streak.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 7) – The Cameron Aggie softball team (2-3, 0-0 LSC North) wrapped up play at the St. Mary’s University Invitational tournament this afternoon with a 4-3 victory over the Abilene Christian Wildcats. CU went 2-3 in the event, which has grown to be one of the most prestigious early-season tournaments in the country. The Aggies took on two nationally-ranked teams, knocking off one of them.

Aggies to honor Cavs tickets

Sill Cavalry season tickets will be honored at all remaining Cameron basketball games in the Aggie Gym. CU’s Dr. Sylvia Burgess to oversee Office of Adult & Continuing Education

Dr. Sylvia Burgess has been named Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs responsible for Adult and Continuing Education at Cameron University. Burgess, who joined the CU faculty and staff in 1995, will oversee the Office of Continuing Education and the Office of Allied Health and Interdisciplinary Studies, ensuring that CU continues to provide quality services to meet the academic and regional community needs of the university’s constituents.
